Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Winds of Magic Review

There’s a lot to love in Warhammer: Vermintide 2. You can choose to play as any of the available heroes, each with their own backstory and weapons, environment, and gear. Each mission provides multiple ways to complete objectives, and the game is challenging enough to keep you engaged. The game’s performance has been upgraded, and bugs are few and far between, making this one of the best Warhammer games yet.

If you’re a fan of the Warhammer series of games, then you’re going to want to read this. With the upcoming release of the sequel, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, players will be able to return to the Warhammer Fantasy world and fight alongside the Reikland Reavers as they try to rid the Old World of Chaos once and for all.

When Fatshark launched Warhammer: Vermintide 2 in 2018, it swept the Warhammer franchise by storm. Winds of Magic was published as a Vermintide 2 DLC in 2019, providing players with new adventures.

Is Winds of Magic, like its predecessors Shadows over Bögenhafen and Back to Ubersreik, worth the money spent on another Vermintide 2 DLC?

So Far, the Story

The arrival of Beastmen was perhaps one of the most eagerly anticipated elements of Winds of Magic. These creatures climb out of the forest when Reikland is struck by a huge meteor, claiming the epicenter as their Herdstone.

It’s up to Vermintide 2’s five heroes to halt them in their tracks.

Dark Omens, the new quest, urges the heroes to look into the meteor crash site.

There’s been a meteor strike, with all the typical carnage, devastation, and creepy-crawlies emerging from the shadows. This one is making my thumbs tingle. We’re not going to be able to ignore it. It’s time for you to do your thing.

As the heroes approach the crash site, they come upon a new encampment known as Skaven. The Beastmen are to blame for this mysterious location.

New Locations for Winds of Magic

The Winds of Magic DLC includes the following places to visit in addition to the mission:

What exactly are The Beastmen?


The Beastmen have a bestial look that resembles that of a humanoid. The color of their hide and the size of their horns reflect their social standing. Those with tiny horns are considered inferior animals even when they are full grown.



Beastmen of many kinds may be found in Winds of Magic, including:

  • Ungor is a character in the game Ungor. These light armored creatures, often known as Archers, are usually feeble.
  • Gor – Melee troops of the standard kind
  • Bestigor is a heavily armored creature with the ability to charge.
  • Wargor — Attaches a Beastmen flag to surrounding soldiers, buffing them.
  • Minotaurs are aggressive boss-type adversaries that swing their axes about.

Level Up using the Winds of Magic

The level limit is raised from 30 to 35 in the Winds of Magic DLC. It’s a little bump, but it’s a boost nevertheless. You may select an extra talent when you reach level 30.

While the higher level limit is great, it didn’t seem to make much of an impact; at least not in the way that a new DLC would.


Winds of Magic adds one additional map to the expansion, in addition to the level limit. Unlike other DLCs, this one was a letdown.

In and Out Weaving

Winds of Magic introduces Weaves, a new game mode. Weaves of the Eight Winds of Magic requires players to use weave-forged weapons to accomplish. Doesn’t it seem exciting?

Weaves, however, does not provide new maps; instead, they provide hashed snippets of current maps that do not provide anything distinctive.

This game mode forbids you from bringing any of your current equipment or abilities with you. Instead, you’ll start from the beginning and gradually unlock your set.


On the surface, it seemed like an intriguing idea, but it didn’t seem very well thought out. In fact, I’m inclined to use the word “lazy” to describe it. I don’t believe I’m alone on this one, based on recent Steam reviews.

Going it Alone

Winds of Magic, to be honest, seemed like it was attempting to be something it wasn’t. The leaderboards seemed totally out of place in a Warhammer game, particularly because you can’t use your AI friends to accomplish any of the tasks.

Finding other random team members who are attempting to achieve the same Weave level is the only method to advance along the Weave chart.

You may assume it’d be simple, like entering a World of Warcraft instance. No, it’s an excruciating procedure that lacks insight and, to be honest, I found it irritating.

Winds of Magic Doesn’t Hit the Spot in Vermintide 2

Fatshark did not live up to my expectations as a fan of the Vermintide games this time.

Winds of Magic seemed a little disjointed, with just one new map to discover. The Weaves game mode was tedious and didn’t provide any sense of victory.

The whole expansion seemed pointless, and I really hope they don’t repeat their errors.

One of the Vermintide 2 DLCs is Winds of Magic. Winds of Magic failed to live up to past DLC triumphs, instead delivering a dull single map and a tedious new game style.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a fun, if a bit repetitive, modern take on the classic Warhammer Fantasy Battle skirmish game. It has a very similar gameplay to the original Vermintide, but in a much larger map and with many more enemies. The story is a lot more engaging in this sequel, and personally I found it a lot easier to get into since I’d been playing the first one for a while..
