At the end of the day, the Cowboys are not going to be winning the NFC East in 2017, let alone winning the Super Bowl. They may be able to stay in the playoff hunt and pick up a win or two, but they certainly won’t make a run at the Lombardi Trophy.
Okay, so let’s start with this: Dak Prescott is officially in danger of following in Patrick Mahomes’ footsteps at the worst possible time. If you’re not aware, Mahomes has been absolutely electric and has led the Kansas City Chiefs to a 6-0 record and a top-ranked offense in the NFL. Prescott, on the other hand, is having one of the worst seasons of his career and has been getting absolutely steamrolled by the opposing defenses. If the Cowboys don’t figure it out soon, Dak will be in danger of following in Patrick Mahomes’ footsteps at the worst possible time.
If you haven’t heard by now, the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback, Dak Prescott, is in big trouble. However, if you’re anything like us, you’ve probably already snickered and tuned out because we’re pretty sure that the entire thing is a bunch of hype and click bait.
Dak Prescott didn’t receive a $503 million contract extension like Patrick Mahomes, but he did sign a lucrative deal to position himself in close proximity to his high-paid counterpart. Despite his poor playoff history, Jerry Jones made Prescott one of the NFL’s highest-paid signal-callers when the Kansas City Chiefs handed him a record-setting contract after he won a Super Bowl championship. As a consequence, the two-time Pro Bowler is under even more pressure to lead the Dallas Cowboys to victory.
Prescott enters the 2021 season with clear doubts about his ability to remain healthy, due to a surgically repaired ankle and a throwing shoulder that showed troublesome this summer. He’s officially in risk of following in Mahomes’ footsteps at the worst possible moment, given on the Cowboys’ personnel problems going into a difficult Week 1 game.
Patrick Mahomes was already made to seem human by the Buccaneers’ feared defense.
You have to beat the greatest to be the best.
And the Buccaneers accomplished just that in Super Bowl 55.
In a high-profile battle between the GOAT and the new face of the NFL, the outcome was lopsided. Against the Chiefs, Tom Brady played efficient, mistake-free football, but Mahomes was suffocated by Tampa’s fearsome front seven. On 26 of 49 throwing attempts, the Buccaneers limited the league’s most physically talented quarterback to 270 yards and zero touchdowns.
They also had two interceptions of the 2018 MVP.
While Mahomes put up a strong effort, he was clearly hampered by an injury-plagued offensive line. To no one’s surprise, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach took a bold approach to overhauling that unit over the offseason.
The Buccaneers, on the other hand, surprised everyone by keeping all 22 starters. The defending champs have the tools in place to make life difficult for opposition quarterbacks once again, with their front seven intact.
Unfortunately for Prescott, the Cowboys will open the season against perhaps the best defense in the league. And, given the present situation in Dallas, the Comeback Player of the Year contender is in risk of following in Mahomes’ footsteps at the worst possible moment.

Depending on the conditions, even a generational genius may seem average. After all, during the Super Bowl, Mahomes had one of his least efficient games of his career, mainly due to protection issues.
On Thursday, don’t be shocked if the Buccaneers have Prescott go through the same ordeal.
It’s possible that things will deteriorate.
After coping with injury problems in 2020, the Cowboys will have to cope with the loss of a key offensive line member once again. After testing positive for COVID-19, All-Pro right guard Zack Martin is expected to miss the team’s season opener. Dallas will have to deal with the strong combination of Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh without him in the lineup, which might be a concern. Plus, while returning to practice on Monday, starting right tackle La’el Collins must show he can still play at a high level after missing the whole 2020 season due to a hip ailment.
Oh, and don’t forget that Prescott will be taking snaps from Tyler Biadasz, a second-year center with 437 offensive snaps on his résumé.
Needless to say, the offensive line battle between the Cowboys and the Buccaneers seems to be comically lopsided. Tampa Bay has the ability and depth to assault Prescott all night, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he re-enacts Mahomes’ worst night at work from February.
Expect Tom Brady and the Patriots to get off to a fast start against a Cowboys squad that is severely undermanned.

Dallas’ chances of winning on the road to open the season seem low. Aside from the offensive line’s probable issues, the team’s defense just isn’t good enough to slow down one of the league’s most explosive and well-balanced offenses.
Although the Buccaneers have the quarterback advantage, Brady has a solid supporting cast in the form of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, and Rob Gronkowski. That trio should be able to cause havoc against a Cowboys secondary that is devoid of experienced playmakers.
In the end, expect TB12 and the rest of the team to get off to a fast start as they prepare for another Super Bowl run.
For Dak Prescott’s sake, let’s hope his journey to Tampa goes better than Patrick Mahomes’.
