While he said that the heated speculation around his future has made for a “tough week,” he added that he is ready to take on the job of turning things around, beginning with Saturday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

“I’ve had some extremely tough experiences as a player here, and I’ve faced with setbacks as a manager,” Solskjaer said at a press conference on Friday. “There have been at least two or three crises while I’ve been here as manager, and one thing I can tell is that I’ll always give it my all and fight back.”

“Of course, it’s been a trying week. We’ve had to cope with the result and performance against Liverpool, which we all know wasn’t good enough, but that’s what players have to deal with; it’s why we’re here. On the training field, we’ve had a fantastic week.”

Earlier this week, sources informed ESPN that some important players had lost trust in Solskjaer even before the loss to Liverpool, and that he was only allowed to stay in his job owing to internal reservations about choosing Antonio Conte as his replacement.

While speaking to the media on Friday, Solskjaer looked to be in a very comfortable mood. “Good, why shouldn’t I be?” he said when asked how he was doing.

United have got a whole week to prepare for Spurs due to the absence of a Carabao Cup match. The return of Raphael Varane has boosted the team, and Solskjaer thinks fans will respond positively at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening.

“We need a response, and it’s also my duty to get the guys in the proper mindset,” he continued. “I’m in charge of the response, the outcome, and the performance.” We’ve worked on the field and everything else that a player needs to know.

“It’s not only a matter of mindset; it’s also a matter of strategy, gameplan, and tactics. We’ve had a terrific week, and I believe the players are prepared to give it their all. Nothing went according to plan [against Liverpool], and we were far from our best.”

Nuno Espirito Santo, Solskjaer’s manager opponent on Saturday, is also under fire following four losses in his first nine Premier League games.

When asked how managers deal with speculation about their jobs, Nuno replied, “Me, myself, I take my own routine.” Christian Gross was the only Spurs manager to lose more games at the same stage in 1997 (five), and when asked how managers deal with speculation about their jobs, Nuno replied, “Me, myself, I take my own routine.” My concentration is on what I can influence and control. It’s all about the players, the group, and the job we do. When we’re all together, the hours we spend at the training site, we have to concentrate on the players.

“If you concentrate on that, it will also come to your house since you will be thinking about what you need do the following day.” Then you can concentrate on what you need to think about while ignoring the background noise.

“There isn’t a single manager in the planet who isn’t under pressure. It is a necessary aspect of our work.”
