Hot Wheels Unleashed game review: An amazing arcade racer

Reminiscent of games like Jet Moto or Top Racer, Hot Wheels Unleashed is a unique arcade racer that puts you in the driver’s seat. Featuring an impressive track design and high-speed racing action, Hot Wheels Unleashed is one of the best mobile gaming experiences available today!

This game is available on Steam which can be bought for $17.99, so you’ve already given up your money if this review doesn’t convince you to buy it. You will not regret the purchase of this arcade racer!

Hot Wheels Unleashed is an amazing arcade racer. It’s a game that’s easy to pick up and play, but difficult to master. The game has an open-world environment with tons of hidden collectibles. With over 100 cars and trucks, Hot Wheels Unleashed is the ultimate stunt edition.

  • Through and through, Hot Wheels Unleashed is a fantastic arcade racing.
  • It reflects the pleasure of playing with toys as a child.
  • There is a lot of stuff to unlock, which will keep you occupied for a long time.

There are two kinds of racing games: those that attempt to simulate real-world driving and those that seek to be as near to a simulation as possible. Arcade racing games, on the other hand, disregard any regulations and focus only on having fun. Hot Wheels Unleashed is most certainly the latter, and it’s also one of the finest games in the category.

Whether or whether we played with Hot Wheels as children, we are all familiar with the brand. The small metal vehicles, as well as the brilliant orange road parts that could be used to create crazy tracks, are classic toys. This game boldly incorporates them both into an incredibly entertaining gaming experience.

Pure, unadulterated pleasure

Fun. It’s a simple and short term, yet it’s very significant. With flying colors, Hot Wheels Unleashed deserves the term. You’ll be racing down slanted slopes, passing through boost pads for additional speed before looping, and then changing onto a magnetic strip to race upside down.

1633343624_381_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerWho doesn’t like loops?

The whole game is an exciting experience with a variety of various features that contribute to the fun. Expect to spend the whole time clinging to the railing and boosting your way out of danger. You’ll need to time your leaps, avoid obstacles, and even escape traps like gigantic spiders spewing webs at you if you want to win the gold medal.

1633343624_546_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerA difficult circumstance

In reality, the majority of the difficulty comes from attempting to remain on the road rather than from the opponent. When the road becomes twisty, you’ll need to build up speed to avoid sliding down, and there are plenty of jumps where you’ll need to adjust your trajectory mid-air to land back on the track.

If you fail to do so, you’ll have to respawn your vehicle, wasting valuable time and, most likely, whatever advantage you had over the cars ahead of you.

The good news is that players who take the time to study the tracks thoroughly will discover some very helpful shortcuts. They’re difficult to execute, but when going for gold, every second matters.

A good balance of difficulty

Time for a confession: I typically play games on easy. I want to have fun, and I’m frequently on a tight schedule to review games before the embargo date, so making things more difficult for myself doesn’t seem like a good idea.

However, after about an hour of playing Hot Wheels Unleashed, I immediately adjusted the difficulty level to Medium. Easy is great for inexperienced players, but if you want at least a little challenge and to feel like you earned your place on the podium, you’ll have to step it up a notch.

If the Hard AI isn’t enough of a challenge for you, you can always bring some talented friends over or enter one of the online tournaments.

1633343625_878_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerMultiplayer on a local split screen!

When an arcade racing game doesn’t include a local split-screen option, it loses a few points in my opinion. So you’ll be glad to know that Hot Wheels Unleashed has you covered! Nothing beats having friends around for drinks and games while lounging on the sofa, and I’m fairly sure I’ll keep this one loaded on my Xbox Series X especially for that.

The single-player campaign will keep you entertained for hours.

1633343626_95_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerEx denotes the location.

There will be no boring moments for solo gamers. Hot Wheels Unleashed is a lengthy single-player campaign in which you travel over a landscape, unlocking additional races, time trials, and monster stages along the way. There’s a lot of material here, but don’t be fooled by its appearance: you’ll be replaying the same stages over and again.

While there are just six locales in the game, there are many track modifications to keep things interesting. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of repeating the same combinations; the game isn’t afraid of repetition. In fact, to uncover some of the secrets, you’ll be returning to particular races with specific vehicles.

1633343626_422_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerIt was a piece of cake to get this one unlocked.

And that, maybe, is Hot Wheels Unleashed’s secret ingredient: there’s always something on the verge of being unlocked. Every race awards either Gold or Gears, the former of which may be spent to purchase vehicles or loot boxes containing random cars, and the latter to improve your vehicle (Normal > Rare > Legendary).

You’ll also find decorations for your basement, such as posters, trinkets, and various designs for the walls and flooring. Because this is the same region utilized in the game while racing, allowing us to modify it is a great idea. I simply haven’t found out how to populate the display units that are now empty.

1633343627_578_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerEat, sleep, play, and repeat.

My main gripe is that the races aren’t rewarding enough, and development is a bit slower than I’d like. Finding a concealed treasure box, on the other hand, is even more rewarding. But be warned: locating all of the vehicles and getting them up to legendary will be a long process, but we’ll get to that later.

Let your imagination go wild.

You may customize more than just the basement; a custom track builder allows you to create your own levels. You have a lot of tools at your disposal, but it was a little overwhelming for me. Especially because the tracks may bend and twist in whatever direction you choose.

1633343628_21_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerI’m completely out of shape.

I had trouble with even the most basic tasks, such as locating the end block, but that’s probably due to my lack of familiarity with track builders like this. It’s a function I use for reviews but wouldn’t spend a lot of time with if I were on my own time. That said, downloading the works of individuals with greater know-how adds hours upon hours of potential gaming time, and I’ll make sure to check them out.

Playing with the aesthetics of various objects is something I like doing. You may also make your own liveries for any vehicle, and even the smallest changes can provide impressive effects. Take a look at this Rip Rod I painted in the Joker’s signature purple and green.

Last but not least, you may use the photomode to express yourself. In my opinion, any game that incorporates this is a step above the competition. You may stop the action at any moment and position your camera just so to get some amazing photos to post on social media.

1633343629_321_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerThe Ideal Situation

The game looks incredible, with the vehicles resembling their real-life toy counterparts due to excellent lighting and texture work. However, even on Xbox Series X, the level textures had some loading problems, but just during the brief fly-over before the race, thus nothing to be concerned about.

clenching your jaw

1633343630_680_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racerThat’s quite a mouthful.

So far, I’ve only praised it, however there were a few things that annoyed me while playing Hot Wheels Unleashed, the most notable of which was the soundtrack. While the music isn’t bad, it isn’t particularly memorable or notable.

The majority of the background music is the kind you’d expect an indie game with a low budget to purchase from stock footage: repetitive loops, nothing memorable, and not contributing anything to the exciting feeling provided by the rest of the sound design, which includes screaming tires and boosts.

Worst of all, most vehicles’ boost deforms the music in a way that the English language so sweetly characterizes as “off” or “out of tune,” but where my own dutch usage of “vals” more closely resembles “I despise it, please stop it.”

Don’t be fooled by the Twitter snippets; I added my own music to make the video more interesting. But it simply goes to show how much excellent audio can enhance a game’s experience.

A minor flaw in the game is that it does not support Quick Resume on Xbox Series X|S. This feature has been a godsend for me since I typically play several games at once, and it’s a pity that a game that would be ideal for a daily fast race doesn’t have it. I’ll continue to play the game on a regular basis, although this is a small improvement in terms of accessibility.

Completion and Achievements

It takes approximately 14-15 hours to complete the single-player campaign if you win every race on the first try. However, if you want to complete the game completely, you’ll be in for a long haul.

There are a lot of vehicles to unlock, so good luck with the loot box system or pay with your hard-earned money in the daily offers. However, as I previously said, obtaining adequate funds will require some grinding.

1633343630_580_Hot-Wheels-Unleashed-game-review-An-amazing-arcade-racer*Takes out wallet*

The achievement list is also a chore; here’s a rundown of the ones you’ll be spending hours on:

  • Open a total of 100 blind boxes with the Box Collector (90G).
  • It’s above 9000 (10G) – Improve the rarity of 15 very rare cars.
  • Unbridled luxury (30G) – Receive 100,000 Coins in total.
  • What am I going to do with so many? (30G) – Collect 25,000 Gears in total.
  • Use the Boost for a total of 60 minutes if you want to go faster than light (15G).
  • Master of Drift (15G) – Drift for 500,000 cm in total (196,850 inches).

So, to grind out the entire 1000G, we’re talking hundreds of hours here. Know what you’re getting yourself into if you’re the kind of player that demands a 100 percent finished check on your games.

And, before you ask, there are a few multiplayer accomplishments available online (We all hate those)

Hot Wheels Unleashed: Final Thoughts

Pros Extremely enjoyable racing experience There are many unlockables to keep you entertained for hours, as well as multiplayer and custom tracks that provide long-term value. Cons The sound quality could’ve been better. There are only 6 spots available. On Xbox Series X or S, there is no fast resume option.

Final Rating: 4.5/5

Hot Wheels Unleashed is the quintessential arcade racing game: it’s quick, exciting, and packed with enough material to keep you entertained for hours. Sure, there might have been a few more places to liven things up, and collecting everything is a pain, but you’ll be boosting for hours on end with a smile on your face thanks to the hefty single-player storyline and limitless unique user-generated songs.

Hot Wheels Unleashed is available for $49.99 on Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch. Milestone is a company that develops and publishes software.
